The Iowa State University (ISU) Service Training Team, through contractual agreements between ISU and the Iowa Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), works with subject matter experts, HHS facilitators and specialists, and university experts to provide training support, instructional design, learning outcomes improvement, research, and Federal Title IV-E curriculum statistics consultation. The team provides leadership to ensure training facilitators, HHS field staff, and community partners are well-equipped to protect the welfare of Iowa’s children and families. The team leverages the university’s academic and technical resources to expand training impact, build quality, and forge alliances for training delivery.

Training

The ISU Service Training Team partners with Iowa HHS to provide online and in-person trainings to child welfare and adult protective services field workers throughout the state of Iowa.  The team works alongside the HHS Service Training Team, the Adult Protective Services Team, and the Adoption Team to provide a variety of services including; design and development support, training support, business administration, and data gathering and analysis.  Trainings are provided around the following topics:  substance use, mental health, domestic violence, medical fundamentals, engagement, inclusion, adoption, dependent adult practice, trauma, legal issues, motivational interviewing, and other social work practices.  These trainings are offered in various modalities, including half-day to multiple-day in-person courses, live webinars, and eLearning modules.

Quality Assurance and Program Evaluation

Early ACCESS

Early ACCESS and Child Care Quality Rating staff provide assistance with the statewide system in early intervention services and Early ACCESS. Early ACCESS staff assist Area Education Agencies (AEAs) with incomplete or inaccurate information from referrals. Child Care Quality Rating staff provide assistance with the statewide system in early intervention services by preparing, reviewing, and managing the quality rating system.
