Due to COVID-19, the Service Training Team has been faced with the challenges and opportunities of working remotely. Things have been going swimmingly under the excellent leadership of Rachel Vos Carrillo and the flexibility of the team. The Service Training Team has found cutting-edge and proactive ways to keep in touch, from weekly team meetings via zoom to sending memes in the Microsoft Teams chat.

Our trainings have always been hosted face-to-face so now we as a team are busier than ever! We have transitioned approximately seven in-person trainings to live webinars. Trainings completed thus far include; two offerings of Foundations of Social Worker Two’s, Substance Abuse Fundamentals, Medical Fundamentals, Basic Training for Child Protective Workers, Dependent Adult Abuse, Trauma Stewardship and Permanency and TPR, along with other webinars including Safe and Together domestic violence trainings. We have utilized two different systems to execute these trainings, Zoom Meetings, and GoTo Training, allowing us to learn more online methods and extend our knowledge and expertise in education and training.

Although working remotely has increased workload of the team, it has also given the team an opportunity to reflect on their accomplishments professionally and personally. Some of these reflections include:

“Given the opportunity to convert courses into a webinar format.”
“Being able to work on online courses in Captivate.”
“Taking on a larger role in facilitating webinar recordings, PowerPoint design work, and planning/management of upcoming online foundational trainings.”
“Learn how to use various online training systems- GoTo Training, Zoom.
“Continuous communication with team members, guest speakers, facilitators.”
“Working closer with guest speakers, consistent communication, and practicing via webcam for trainings.”

The team has also been keeping busy with the New Learning Management System- Learn Soft, attending professional webinars, and practicing Mid-Morning Meditation. It’s vital that we all take care of ourselves during these uncertain times.
