The Parenting: It's a Life (PIAL) project within the Child Welfare Research and Training Project (CWRTP) will be expanding into the college years through a new grant with Iowa's Child Support Recovery Unit (CSRU). Iowa's CSRU was one of eight states to receive a Federal Responsible Parenting Grant award. Through a contract with Iowa's CSRU, PIAL will receive $643,837 over three years to complete three primary objectives:

1) Examine the efficacy of the current Parenting: It’s a Life (PIAL) curriculum that serves youth, 13-18 years old

2) Expand the PIAL curriculum to serve young adults, 18-25 years old in community college settings

3) Engage future teachers and human service professionals with the PIAL program to prepare them to implement PIAL components in their classrooms and organizations.

Several CWRTP/HDFS team members will be involved with development, implementation, and evaluation. This includes Jo Ann Lee, Kate Goudy, Rhonda Evans, Miles Tritle, Jan Melby, Daeyong Lee and Carl Weems (PI). Additional staff and students will be hired to fill specific roles.

Kate Goudy says, "We are excited to collaborate with Iowa's CSRU on this project. Expanding PIAL has been a goal for several years and now we have the opportunity to make it happen."
