On April 19th, Dr. Bethany McCurdy shared recent findings from PIAL Expansion Grant Objective 1 at the Society for Research on Adolescence (SRA) in Chicago. The evaluation assessed youth's knowledge about various topics surrounding life skills and pre-parenting before and after PIAL delivered modules to schools across Iowa. Findings indicated that youth who took specific modules showed greater increases in knowledge of those module topics (i.e., Decisions and Goals, Resiliency, Cost of Raising a Child, and Establishing Paternity). The evaluation identifies PIAL as an effective program to teach youth about various topics on life skills. Dr. McCurdy is currently working on a larger evaluation of the program, including assessing if attending more modules was associated with greater overall increases in knowledge. Stay tuned!
