  • Dr. Zarling conducts research from a multidisciplinary, multi-method approach, bridging clinical psychology, family science, and criminal justice to explore how we can rehabilitate those who have caused harm, while also increasing access to justice and equality for vulnerable populations, such as survivors of domestic violence and justice-involved youth and families. Her work focuses on:
    • Developing trauma-informed, strengths-based, and culturally-responsive methods and programs to empower behavior change for individuals and families
    • Evaluating violence intervention programs for adults and youth who have caused harm, including the prevention and treatment of family violence and intimate partner violence
    • Training and evaluating interventions for professionals who work with individuals who have caused harm and their families
    • Disseminating evidence-based interventions to improve relationships and well-being for historically marginalized, under-resourced, and/or under-served populations
    • Examining how race and gender impact the delivery and effectiveness of these programs
